Work
set to commence on Stratford Southern Relief Road Eastern Extension
Trinity
Mead, Stratford-upon-Avon, January 2004:
Warwickshire
County Council will be starting construction of a new link road on the
south east side of Startford-upon-Avon early next month (February 2004)
The Eastern extension
of the Stratford Southern Relief Road will connect the existing roundabout
on the A3400 Shipston Road at its junction with Seven Meadows Road,
to a new roundabout on the A422 Banbury Road, providing access at a
further roundabout to the Trinity Mead housing development, which is
currently under construction.
The scheme involves
the construction of a 1.2km length of single lane carriageway and the
construction of a single span reinforced concrete bridge over Rush Brook,
which also allows pedestrians using the public footpaths to cross safely
under the road.
The scheme will
cost approximately £2million and is being funded by a consortium
made up of Heron Land Developments, Taylor Woodrow and Stratford District
Council. Construction is to be carried out by contractors Wrekin Construction
and supervised by Warwickshire County Council. The scheme is expected
to be completed by the end of July 2004 and opened soon after.
Section Engineer
Chris Horn said of the new road scheme: "This will not only provide
access to the new housing development, but will also be a useful bypass
route on the southeast side of the town of Stratford which should relieve
traffic problems in the Alveston roundabout area."
